Background of the Communication Department
The Communication Department of the Presbyterian Church in Cameroon (PCC) stands as one of the pioneering ministries of the Church, with a mission to proclaim Christ through modern means of communication.
Motto: “That in every way, Christ is proclaimed.” — Philippians 1:18.

Origins and Early Development
The Department began under the name “Radio and Literature Department.”
Discussions on establishing this communication arm of the Church started in the early 1960s, with groundwork laid between 1966 and 1967. In 1968, the Department became operational, focusing primarily on evangelization through radio broadcasting.
At the time, the Church did not own a radio station. “Radio,” therefore, referred to the production of Christian programmes and their broadcast on the government-owned radio station in Buea. The Department produced and aired several regular programmes, including:
- Presbyterian Meditation (every Sunday and on holy days)
- Presbyterian Echo (Thursdays)
- Morning Devotion (Mondays to Saturdays, in rotation with the Baptist and Roman Catholic Churches)
The Literature component of the Department was equally vibrant. It oversaw the publication of The Messenger, a 16-page black-and-white magazine carrying both Christian and general news. While it remains uncertain whether the Diary and Almanac was part of the literature work at the time, this period marked the beginning of organized media and publication work within the PCC.
Transition to the Communication Department
As the scope of work expanded, members of the Department began to feel that the name “Radio and Literature Department” was too restrictive.
The first Cameroonian Secretary of the Department, Rev. Nyansako-ni-Nku, proposed a more inclusive title. In 1972, during the Synod Committee meeting in Wum, the name was officially changed to “Communication Department.”
This change reflected the Church’s growing vision to embrace a wider range of media — both print and electronic. Under the new name, the Department’s work extended to include magazines, gospel tracts, diaries, almanacs, and other print materials, alongside radio, audio and video productions, television, computers, and information technology infrastructure.

Mandate and Leadership
The Communication Department is responsible for coordinating and managing all communication, media, and information activities of the Presbyterian Church in Cameroon.
